Alon Unger is the Chairman and Founder of the Unmanned Vehicles Israel Defense (UVID) Conferences, which he has regarded since 2012 as his life’s project – to establish a yearly, professional, international conference and exhibition for the UAV and drone community in Israel. UVID has hosted more than 4,000 participants at UVID 2024 and over 33,000 attendees since 2012, representing more than 40 countries.
Unger is a senior UAV pilot and operator with more than 35 years of experience and over 9,000 flight hours on various UAV platforms, including MALE UAVs, Tactical UAVs, Mini UAVs, and Multi-Rotors. He holds a Remote Pilot Permit from the Civil Aviation Authority of Israel (CAAI).
For many years, Unger served in the Israeli Air Force as a senior commander with various operational field units as well as at IAF Headquarters. Over the past 21 years, he has held positions and gained extensive experience in the defense industry, focusing on management, strategy, business development, concept development and system engineering, trials and experiments, operations, and integration, both in Israel and abroad.
For more than eight years, Unger served as Head of the Test and Experiments UAV Branch in the Israeli Test Range Infrastructure and currently holds the position of UAV Organization SME. He also participates as a team member and research colleague in Strategic Working Groups at leading institutions in Israel, contributing his expertise as a UAV specialist.
Since 2017, Unger has been promoting the strategic concept of “UAV as an Economic Engine of Growt” in Israel, advocating for a nationally managed approach to the UAV domain through writing, lecturing, and thought leadership within the UVID ecosystem.
In 2025, Unger was appointed Israel’s National UAV SME for the National Program for Economic Growth under the Ministry of Economy. In this capacity, he co-leads the Defense and Cyber Cluster initiative promoting UAVs as a driver of economic growth in Israel.
Unger is a staff member and contributor at IsraelDefense Magazine. Through a strategic partnership with IsraelDefense, he initiated and produced the UVID Conference, where he serves as Conference Chairman and as a professional writer and expert on unmanned systems. A popular and sought-after speaker at UAV conferences, he continues to share his deep expertise and vision for the industry’s future.
Unger is an alumnus of the Hebrew Reali School in Haifa. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and accounting from Haifa University and a master’s degree (cum laude) in business management from the College of Management, Rishon LeZion.
