Director general of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAAI) since April 2023.
Shmuel Zakay, has been Managing Director of Ben Gurion
International Airport.
Ben Gurion is Israel’s main international air transport hub.
Previously Deputy Director General of Border Terminals & Domestic Airports - a unit of the Israel Airports Authority, Zakay has also held the role of Director of Ben Gurion’s Security Division.
Prior to that he was Deputy Director of General Administration and organization.
Mr. Zakay retired from the Israeli Defense Forces in 2004 with the rank of Brigadier General.
During his military career Zakay served various position in the elite Golani infantry brigade, including that of battalion commander. In addition, Zakay has held the roles of Battalion Commander at the IDF Officers School, Commander of the Gaza Division, and Commander of the Arava and Negev Division.
Mr. Zakay is a graduate of the IDF Command and General Staff College, and has a degree in Multidisciplinary B.A. and Defense & Security Studies (IDF Command and Staff College) – Tel Aviv University.
